We live in the age of tools, where there are tools to improve everything. Well, almost literally everything.
We want super sophisticated calculation for our tax, there is a tool for it. We want to beautify each of our teeth; there is a tool for it. We want to reshape our faces, there is a tool for it. We want to find something in the middle of the market through our phone, there is a tool for it. For almost anything we can think of today, there is more likely a tool for it.
But really, are most of these tools really useful?
Yes, I know they are functional. Still, be functional does not always make it useful.
I have seen many times that we spend too much time to understand the tools that suppose to make our work faster and easier. So it ends up not really making it faster and easier. These are the tools that are not good enough.
I also have seen many situations where we complicate our life with tools for things that we actually can just do it faster without those tools. These are the tools that maybe useful if we are too lazy to do it the old way. For some, doing it with more time but less effort can be valuable. But, that is not for everyone. At least, not for the ones like me.
Whatever it is, the tools are useful only if they can do it faster than us.
the most important tools can never be replaced: the faculty of critical thinking and intuition/gut feeling. The play a really huge role in our life.
Yes, they are there and can’t be get rid off either. But they need to be trained in effective way, so they will not mislead us 🙂
Interesting topic Pak James, especially the functional vs useful part 🙂
Yes, it is 🙂
